Edwards syndrome, also known as trisomy 18, is a severe genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 18. This condition leads to significant developmental delays, heart defects, and often, a short life expectancy. Edwards syndrome affects approximately 1 in 5,000 live births, with higher prevalence in females.
