Ovulation pain, also known as mittelschmerz, is a cramping sensation often felt on one side of the lower abdomen around the time of ovulation. This pain occurs due to the release of an egg from the ovary. Ovulation pain typically lasts a few minutes to a few hours and is generally harmless.
