Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is an infection of the tonsils, typically caused by viruses or bacteria. Symptoms of tonsillitis include sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and swollen tonsils. Treatments range from rest and fluids to antibiotics in bacterial cases. Persistent or severe tonsillitis may require surgical removal of the tonsils, known as a tonsillectomy.
