Mike Lemon

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Knee and Hip Mike is a knee and hip specialist with extensive experience treating the complete range of knee injuries through to early and advanced knee, and hip, arthritis. He has a particular interest in tissue and bone preserving treatments to enable natural joint function. Mike performs: complex sports injury meniscal repairs tendon preserving (anterior cruciate ligament) ACL techniques partial joint replacement/resurfacing fully bespoke computer-aided design joint replacements (where applicable) Mike is proficient in all the latest technical advances in knee sports injury repair, and is referred cases by colleagues which require complex reconstruction. He receives referrals from knee specialists for assessment of all types of partial knee replacement. Mike’s hip practice is focussed entirely on total hip replacement with a particular interest in intra-operative techniques to preserve hip biomechanics. Background Mike studied medicine at Oxford University. His surgical training started in Guy’s and St. Thomas’ hospitals, followed by an invaluable post in a major trauma centre in Cape Town, South Africa. Specialist training continued on the South West London rotation, followed by two UK specialist knee and hip surgery fellowships where Mike was able to develop his skills, working with internationally renowned specialists, in uni-compartmental, total/revision knee replacement, and sports knee surgery. Mike then spent a year at South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), one of the busiest knee and hip centres in Europe, learning advanced hip replacement techniques including multiple surgical training visits to Paris.

Oliver Templeton-Ward

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Knee Mr. Oliver Templeton-Ward is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, specialising exclusively in knee surgery. His practice covers complex reconstructive surgery for sports injuries as well as the latest joint preservation techniques for both early and established knee arthritis. Mr Templeton-Ward has been fellowship trained in both partial and total knee replacement surgery. These types of surgery include patient-matched, and robotic-assisted, total and revision knee replacement. He has a sub-specialist interest clinic in patellofemoral instability and anterior knee pain. Mr Templeton-Ward also provides a tertiary referral service for complex multi-ligament injury of the knee, and other knee surgeons regularly refer patients to him from around the region. Background Mr Templeton-Ward attended Nottingham University Medical School and his surgical and orthopaedic training was carried out in London and the south east of England. Following this he carried out 15 months of sub-specialist knee fellowship training, initially under Mr. Neil Bradley, at Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford, where he was trained in partial, total and revision knee replacement surgery. He went on to study further in Sydney, Australia, on the internationally recognised and highly sought-after fellowship with Dr. David Wood, President of the Australian Knee Society. This fellowship covered complex multi-ligament reconstruction surgery and patellofemoral instability.

Kerry Acton

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Hip and Knee Mr. Kerry Acton is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, with a particular interest in hip surgery in the young. For the hip Kerry performs: hip arthroscopy impingement surgery labral resection and osteochondroplasty Having studied the long-term survival of implants, Mr. Acton is a proponent of uncemented hip replacements and hard-bearing (metal-on-metal or ceramic-on-ceramic) hips. He carries out revision hip surgery for failed hip replacements, including hip resurfacing. For the knee Kerry performs: arthroscopy meniscal resection and repair anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction uni-compartment knee replacement total knee replacement (TKR) osteotomy He treats fractures of both the upper and lower limbs using surgical and less invasive methods. Background Mr. Acton attended St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London, and undertook orthopaedic training in London and the south east of England. He then went on to sub-specialty training in cementless and revision hip surgery during a one year Furlong Fellowship on the south coast. Mr. Acton has delivered prize-winning presentations at academic meetings and published research in peer-reviewed journals. During his training he sat on the Royal College of Surgeons Specialist Advisory Committee for Orthopaedics, as well as the Intercollegiate Board, overseeing the FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) exam. He continues to innovate to improve orthopaedic outcomes and is actively involved in research, while also being invited regularly to teach, lecture and demonstrate his surgical techniques in the UK and abroad.

Anthony Hearnden

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Shoulder, Elbow, Hand and Wrist Mr. Anthony Hearnden is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in surgery of the hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow. His practice involves the use of advanced arthroscopic and minimally invasive methods. He offers a comprehensive multi-disciplinary upper limb approach, through close links with referring therapists and clinicians. Mr. Hearnden provides a tertiary referral service for many upper limb problems, in particular complex elbow surgery. He is regularly referred these difficult cases from other upper limb surgeons in the south of England. Background Mr. Hearnden qualified from King’s College Medical School, London, in 1995. Completing his years as a junior doctor at the Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford, he then spent a year learning techniques in plastic surgery. His orthopaedic training was in south west London, before winning a prestigious hand and shoulder surgery fellowship at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, Manchester. In 2007 he was made a consultant at Wrightington, where he routinely treated complex and tertiary hand, elbow and upper limb disorders from the north west of England. He returned to Guildford in 2010 to take up a consultant post at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. In addition to his surgical qualifications, he holds a BSc in medical physics and is an honorary senior lecturer in orthopaedic management at Salford University. He is widely published in the medical journals and a member of the Ascension Orthopaedics product development team for new joint replacements in the hand and wrist. Mr. Hearnden also lectures nationally and internationally on upper limb surgery.

Julie Kohls

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Foot and Ankle Miss Julie Kohls is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions. Miss Kohls uses the latest recognized surgical techniques to treat patients, including keyhole surgery. Where surgery is not required, Julie will provide a specialist assessment, to guide her patients, using physiotherapy and other treatments such as orthotics. Background Miss Kohls qualified in Medicine at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, in 1996, followed by orthopaedic surgery training program at the University of Toronto. After arriving in London in 1999, Miss Kohls completed her training in orthopaedic surgery on the London North West training programme. In 2007 she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS (Tr & Orth)), and has completed two years of Fellowship Training in foot and ankle surgery. In addition, Miss Kohls trained in foot and ankle surgery during a year at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London, and then completed a second year as the Surrey Foot and Ankle Fellow, working at both the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital. Outside of surgery, Miss Kohls is also involved in Education. She has a Masters Degree in Surgical Education (M. Ed) from the University of Toronto.

Adam Way

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Spine Spinal Surgeon MSc, MBChB, FRCS (Orth) Mr. Adam Way is a consultant spinal surgeon specialising in neck and lower back pain. His surgical practice concentrates on the use of minimally invasive techniques. He performs the full range of spinal operations, including injections, vertobroplasty/kyphoplasty (injecting acrylic bone cement into a fracture through a hole in the skin), cervical disc replacement or fusion, and lumbar microdiscectomies, decompressions and fusions. Background Mr. Way attended Sheffield University Medical School and did his basic surgical training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, the Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow, and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. He studied for his MSc in Surgical Sciences at University College London and then went on to Higher Surgical Training at Barts and the Royal London Hospital. He focused his registrar training towards becoming a spinal surgeon, spending two years on the spinal unit at Stanmore, followed by another year completing an advanced spinal surgery fellowship. Adam’s research has been published nationally and internationally, and he has also lectured on spinal and trauma surgery. He assesses examinations and conducts interviews for the London and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deaneries. He is on the executive board of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons as Membership Secretary.

Hand And Wrist Surgeon

Peter Magnussen

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Hand and Wrist Mr. Peter Magnussen is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hand, wrist and upper limb conditions. He works in partnership with senior specialised hand therapists and imaging colleagues to offer the very best standard of treatment. Peter trained in the UK and worked extensively at a missionary hospital in Zululand before returning to the UK to complete his surgical training. He completed fellowships in Australia and Sweden before becoming Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Hospital at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey, in 1990. In 1995 he moved to the Royal Surrey County Hospital to develop the hand and upper limb service. He continues to lecture, train and also chairs the Regional Hand Surgery Group, and has published several papers on various aspects of hand and knee surgery.

Daniela Tonucci

Pain Management Consultant FRCA FFPMRCA Dr. Daniela Tonucci is a consultant in chronic pain and anaesthesia. Her specialist interests include neuropathic pain, spinal pain, pain-relieving injections and cancer pain. Additionally she carries out RF (radio frequency) denervation and ablative procedures. Daniela also has an interest in pain psychology and the mindfulness-based techniques that can be used to deal with it. As and where appropriate, she can discuss with patients the viability of and how to access additional sources of pain-relief support, such as physiotherapy, osteopathy and acupuncture. Dr. Tonucci also treats those with nerve pain (neuropathy), and fibromyalgia, partly expressed as pain that can be felt anywhere in the body for which there is not one or no clear-cut cause. Background Dr. Tonucci graduated from Bristol University in 1995 and went on to undertake structured pain training at the Royal United Hospital, Bath. She continued advanced pain training with a senior fellowship at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London, and gained a Fellowship of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Daniela also has formal training in interventional spinal procedures. During her career in anaesthesia and pain medicine, Dr. Tonucci has gained valuable experience in general medicine and paediatrics, including a year in Sydney, Australia, specialising in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.

Elbow, Hand And Wrist Surgeon

James Logan

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Elbow, Hand and Wrist James Logan is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in traumatic and degenerative conditions of the hand and wrist. He takes a particular interest in complex wrist trauma and sports-related injuries. Background James undertook orthopaedic hand surgery fellowships with Professor David Warwick at University Hospital Southampton and Professor Mark Ross at Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb unit in Queensland Australia. He also undertook a specialist orthoplastics hand surgery fellowship at University Hospitals Birmingham. James graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2007 before beginning his medical career as a houseman at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He subsequently underwent Surgical training in the Wessex Deanery before returning to the Guildford Deanery to take up a post as a consultant hand and orthopaedic surgeon in 2019. In between he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Cardiff Metropolitan University, in 2015.

Mr Andrew Keightley

Andrew is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon practising at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery with his practice encompassing arthroscopic and mini-invasive surgery through to 3D planning arthroplasty. Training Andrew qualified from Imperial College Medical school in 2006 and spent his junior doctor training in London and the South-East. He gained higher surgical education in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery before becoming the Upper Limb Fellow at the Royal Surrey Hospital, encompassing a practice in arthroscopy, arthroplasty and upper limb trauma. He then completed a prestigious fellowship at the international acclaimed Wrightington Upper Limb Unit. Here he further developed from a high volume tertiary centre renowned for complex primary and revision shoulder and elbow arthroplasty as well as complex soft tissue reconstruction cases. Andrew now helps run the Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship programme at the Royal Surrey Hospital, responsible for training fully qualified orthopaedic surgeons to become shoulder and elbow surgeons.

Mr Alexander Dinneen

Mr Alex Dinneen is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in surgery of the foot and ankle. He has extensive experience in managing all aspects of foot and ankle problems including deformity, arthritis, sports injuries and acute fractures. He offers a bespoke ‘patient focused’ multidisciplinary approach working closely with specialist therapists and clinicians. His practice is underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of biomechanics which helps to ensure optimal outcomes for his patients. Mr Dinneen is the lead Foot and Ankle Trauma Specialist in Guildford and manages the majority of complex fracture cases, often following referral from colleagues and other Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons. Alex has extensive, high level fellowship training from the world-renowned Perth Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (POSM) group in Western Australia in 2014 and latterly in the UK working in Brighton and Surrey alongside three past presidents of the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society. Alex returned to his family home county of Surrey in 2016 with his consultant appointment to The Royal Surrey Foundation Trust, Guildford. In addition to his established Foot and Ankle practice Alex is the Clinical Director for Trauma. In this role he takes pride in developing practice and supporting colleagues from many departments in addition to his own. He is actively involved in education both locally and nationally and helps coordinate the South London, Kent, Surrey & Sussex registrar teaching programme to train the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
