Mr Simon Pearce
Mr Pearce trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School graduating in 2002 achieving Honorary Life Membership for academic, sporting and executive committee contributions. He underwent surgical training in several prestigious London teaching hospitals. He was a registrar on the South East Thames Orthopaedic Rotation before being appointed as a Consultant in Conquest and Eastbourne Hospitals in 2014. Mr Pearce is Fellowship trained in both Hip and Knee Surgery. Mr Barry Rose
Mr Rose graduated from Cambridge University. He undertook basic surgical training at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospitals. Higher surgical training was on the South East Thames orthopaedic rotation, working in hospitals throughout London, Kent and Sussex. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. During his training he achieved MSc degree following research into recovery following forefoot surgery. He undertook a year of fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia where he was exposed to the surgical management of a wide range of foot and ankle pathology. He subsequently successfully completed a prestigious fellowship with Dishan Singh at the internationally acclaimed Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, where he developed further expertise in complex foot and ankle surgery. He was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital (East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust) in 2016. Mr Rose has a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery. His practice includes the whole spectrum of foot and ankle conditions ranging from sports injuries, ankle instability, tendon problems, foot and ankle deformity, arthritic disease through to the management of heel pain, forefoot pain, bunions and lesser toe problems. Mr Selmon began his medical training in 1987 at Guy’s Hospital Medical School. He graduated in 1992 and after basic surgical training, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. Hip Surgery Mr Skyrme completed a specialist hip arthroplasty fellowship at the internationally renowned Mater Hospital, Sydney, in 2003. Here, he studied under Dr William Walter, who is one of the world’s leading experts in hip surgery. Mr Skyrme also trained under Mr Hugh Apthorp, considered one of Europe’s leading minimally invasive hip surgeons. Mr Skyrme specialises in the latest techniques in complex hip surgery, particularly the use of minimally invasive hip surgery (MIS), day-case hip surgery and enhanced recovery hip surgery. From 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022, he performed 348 hip procedures*. As one of the leading experts in hip surgery, he has published extensively in this field. Mr. Syed Ahmed, is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a focus that is almost entirely on hip surgery. He’s known for his high volume of hip replacements, performing over 500 annually with a particular interest in minimally invasive hip replacement. Mr Butler-Manuel began his medical training at St Thomas’s Hospital, London. His higher surgical training was carried out on the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ s Rotation which included appointments at the Royal East Sussex Hospital in Hastings, the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and at The Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a special interest in lower limb surgery, at the Conquest Hospital in 1993. He has worked regularly at The Horder Centre since 2003. Mr. Butler-Manuel specialises in knee replacement surgery. According to the latest NJR data, he has performed approximately 600 primary total knee replacements, 200 partial knee replacements and over 100 revision knee replacements in the last 3 years. He is a Faculty Member of the Oxford Partial Knee Group and helps train experienced surgeons in this technique. He also specialises in arthroscopic and ligament reconstruction surgery as well as maintaining his interest in orthopaedic trauma. Mr Butler-Manuel has a major interest in Clinical Research. He regularly presents at national and international Knee Conferences. He helped establish a dedicated lower limb Research Unit at the Conquest Hospital. Current research studies include:- a randomised controlled study comparing functional results between an established (AGC) and a newer (Vanguard) knee replacements, a randomised controlled study comparing the outcomes following mobile bearing (TMK) and fixed bearing (AGC) knee replacements, and a long term review of Oxford partial knee replacements to be submitted for publication in 2016, He is also principal investigator at the Conquest for an international multicentre study comparing total hip replacement with hemiarthroplasty for fractured neck of femur patients. Mr Butler-Manuel has also been Lead Consultant for Audit and was Orthopaedic Clinical Lead at the Conquest Hospital from 2007 -2011.

Mr David has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust for over 13 years, having trained in London and the South East. Mr Hoskinson undertook his preclinical undergraduate medical training at the University of Cambridge, and then completed clinical training at the Royal Free & University College Medical School, London, in 2000. Mr Hagen Jähnich
Mr Jähnich is a Specialist in shoulder and elbow surgery. He went to medical school in Greifswald, Germany, from 1985 until 1990. He graduated in 1991 having worked in a training post in sports medicine. At that point, he moved to England in order to improve his language skills. Initially for sporting reasons and later on for family reasons he stayed in the United Kingdom and underwent a full training in surgery in general followed by a specialist orthopaedic training. This included advanced training posts in shoulder and elbow surgery and a hand fellowship. Since 2004, Mr Jähnich earned his title as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of upper limb problems. Furthermore, he teaches on national and international specialist arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery courses. He was Regional Clinical Coordinator for the National Joint Registry for over ten years, and over the last 20 years of his practice as a consultant, he has developed and broadened his surgical techniques in modern shoulder surgery. To aid this he has visited world renowned Orthopaedic Surgeons such as Professor Ralph Hertel in Berne, Switzerland and Alex Castagne in Milan, Italy. In August 2001 he commenced a fellowship in Perth Western Australia working with Mr Holt specialising in sports related injuries including knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow, hip arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction. In March 2002 he then began a Trauma Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia study for Mr Croser, this involved the daily running of the trauma department and daily trauma surgery including highly complex fractures and multiple injuries. In April 2003 Mr Armitage was appointed to Eastbourne District General Hospital as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Knee surgery. In 2006 Mr Armitage took over as Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics at Eastbourne driving the department forward and inline with Local, National and European directives. He stepped down from the position of Clinical Lead in 2012. He provides a comprehensive knee service including osteotomy, unicompartmental replacement, knee replacement, revision knee surgery, arthroscopy, ACL and PCL ligament reconstructions.
