Mr Simon Pearce

Mr Pearce trained at Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School graduating in 2002 achieving Honorary Life Membership for academic, sporting and executive committee contributions. He underwent surgical training in several prestigious London teaching hospitals. He was a registrar on the South East Thames Orthopaedic Rotation before being appointed as a Consultant in Conquest and Eastbourne Hospitals in 2014. Mr Pearce is Fellowship trained in both Hip and Knee Surgery. He spent a year in Sydney, Australia, on a Professorial Fellowship with some of the world’s leading surgeons in hip and knee arthroplasty and reconstructive surgery, and then a further six months in Guy’s Hospital, London, on a fellowship in knee surgery. He also enjoys teaching surgeons-in-training as well as other healthcare professionals. He has taught on the South East Thames Orthopaedic programme and on courses for consultant exams.

Mr Mark Pickford

Mr Pickford has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in hand surgery since 1997. Prior to that he spent a year at the Christine M Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, gaining experience in elective and emergency hand surgery. His practice covers all hand conditions, distal to elbow and investigation and treatment of wrist pain by arthroscopy. Mr Pickford’s interests also include common conditions such as osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, Dupuytrens disease and compression neuropathies. Mr Pickford is the Head of the Trauma Management Group at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, working to improve the management and care of patients with upper limb injuries.

Mr Samuel Rajaratnam

Mr Sam Rajaratnam is a leading consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in knee surgery at The Horder Centre and The Cleveland Clinic, London. Mr Rajaratnam trained at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospital in London and qualified with a First-Class degree in Anatomy and an MBBS in 1997. He then received further higher surgical training with the Royal College of Surgeons of England at numerous centres of excellence in the UK and fellowship training in knee injury treatment in Sydney, Australia.

Mr Barry Rose

Mr Rose graduated from Cambridge University. He undertook basic surgical training at Guys & St Thomas’ Hospitals. Higher surgical training was on the South East Thames orthopaedic rotation, working in hospitals throughout London, Kent and Sussex. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013. During his training he achieved MSc degree following research into recovery following forefoot surgery. He undertook a year of fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia where he was exposed to the surgical management of a wide range of foot and ankle pathology. He subsequently successfully completed a prestigious fellowship with Dishan Singh at the internationally acclaimed Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, where he developed further expertise in complex foot and ankle surgery. He was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery at Eastbourne District General Hospital (East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust) in 2016. Mr Rose has a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery. His practice includes the whole spectrum of foot and ankle conditions ranging from sports injuries, ankle instability, tendon problems, foot and ankle deformity, arthritic disease through to the management of heel pain, forefoot pain, bunions and lesser toe problems. Surgical procedures comprise all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including arthroscopic procedures, stabilisations, complex reconstructions, arthroplasty (joint replacement), arthrodesis (joint fusion), tendon surgery, bunion correction and lesser toe correction. Mr Rose is a keen teacher of trainee doctors and surgeons, and is an ATLS instructor.

Mr Guy Selmon

Mr Selmon began his medical training in 1987 at Guy’s Hospital Medical School. He graduated in 1992 and after basic surgical training, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. He undertook his Specialist Orthopaedic training in London and the South East. His final year of training was spent in the world-renowned Spinal Unit in Adelaide, South Australia, working closely for Professor R D Fraser. In 2003 he was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Conquest Hospital, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and has continued to expand both his adult spinal practice as well as his general orthopaedic commitment. Mr Selmon has recently been an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination and is actively involved in the teaching and training of future orthopaedic surgeons. In addition to his surgical role, he has recently been appointed as clinical lead in Orthopaedics and is therefore involved in ensuring the delivery of the best quality treatment possible.

Mr Andrew Skyrme

Mr Andrew Skyrme FRCS (Tr. & Orth.) is a leading Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip, knee, and foot and ankle surgery. He joined The Horder Centre, Crowborough, in 2004, and is the Chairman of The Horder Centre, Orthopaedic Medical Advisory Committee. Mr Skyrme trained at Guy’s Hospital, London, and qualified with a first-class degree in Radiological Sciences and an MBBS in 1993. He completed his higher surgical training at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and became a Consultant Surgeon in 2003. Hip Surgery Mr Skyrme completed a specialist hip arthroplasty fellowship at the internationally renowned Mater Hospital, Sydney, in 2003. Here, he studied under Dr William Walter, who is one of the world’s leading experts in hip surgery. Mr Skyrme also trained under Mr Hugh Apthorp, considered one of Europe’s leading minimally invasive hip surgeons. Mr Skyrme specialises in the latest techniques in complex hip surgery, particularly the use of minimally invasive hip surgery (MIS), day-case hip surgery and enhanced recovery hip surgery. From 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022, he performed 348 hip procedures*. As one of the leading experts in hip surgery, he has published extensively in this field. Mr Skyrme strongly advocates for the latest rapid recovery techniques and pursues early mobilisation in all patients. This, combined with optimising pain relief, helps to achieve an early return to function following hip replacement surgery. Knee Surgery Mr Skyrme performs a large number of knee replacements and knee arthroscopic surgeries annually. Between 1 April 2021 – 31 March 2022, he performed 170 knee procedures*. He also works with the Football Association and the local premiership club and has operated on premiership footballers with sport-induced injuries. He is trained on the Robotic Surgical Assistant (ROSA) knee system (Zimmer Biomet) and the Persona knee, which is a patient-specific arthroplasty. Foot and Ankle Surgery Mr Skyrme also performs foot and ankle procedures. He has published extensively in this field, particularly in forefoot surgery. He is a member of the British Foot and Ankle Society and has lectured internationally, particularly in forefoot pathologies. Mr Skyrme’s clinical research has been published in various peer-reviewed journals, and subsequently, he became an Associate Editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery in 2013. Furthermore, he is the joint author of the book ‘Common Spinal Disorders Explained’. He is passionate about training young surgeons and was the Royal College Tutor for Eastbourne District General Hospital from 2005-2012.

Mr Senthil Kumar Velayudham

Mr Velayudham was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2006 and commenced practice at The Horder Centre in 2007. He practices exclusively in hip surgery, specialising in treating hip problems such as hip arthritis and failed hip replacements. He also specialises in young adult hip problems and sports hip injury. He practices evidence-based medicine and uses safe and highly successful techniques in minimally invasive hip replacement (his default technique), resurfacing hip replacement, complex hip replacement, revision hip replacement and hip arthroscopy for hip impingement and other hip pathology. He also performs Robotic hip replacement. The National Joint Registry (NJR) collects information on hip replacement surgery and monitors the performance of joint replacement implants, hospitals and surgeons. It highlights that from 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, Mr Velayudham performed 531 hip procedures*. Mr Syed S. Ahmed

Mr. Syed Ahmed, is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a focus that is almost entirely on hip surgery. He’s known for his high volume of hip replacements, performing over 500 annually with a particular interest in minimally invasive hip replacement. Mr Ahmed graduated from University of Sheffield’s Medical School and completed his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He then went on to gain international experience in Toronto to further sub-specialise in lower limb arthroplasty. Following this, he worked at University College London Hospital gaining significant experience in complex hip and knee replacements, revision hip surgery and robotic hip and knee arthroplasty. During his fellowship, he performed a high volume of robotic joint replacements. He also has a specialist interest in managing prosthetic joint infections. Mr Ahmed ensures that he uses the latest in hip and knee technology and has a specific interest in enhanced recovery after hip/knee replacement and minimally invasive surgery. Mr Per Anderberg

Professional profile Mr Per Anderberg studied medicine in Germany and Sweden. Swedish Registration as a Doctor was granted in 1990 with the Swedish Registration for Orthopaedic Surgery being granted in 1994. Since 2005, Mr Anderberg has been working at The Horder Centre, specialising in the knee and shoulder. His surgeries are performed at The Horder Center (Crowborough). His clinics are run from Seaford and Crowborough.

Mr Adrian Butler-Manuel

Mr Butler-Manuel began his medical training at St Thomas’s Hospital, London. His higher surgical training was carried out on the Guy’s and St. Thomas’ s Rotation which included appointments at the Royal East Sussex Hospital in Hastings, the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and at The Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a special interest in lower limb surgery, at the Conquest Hospital in 1993. He has worked regularly at The Horder Centre since 2003. Mr. Butler-Manuel specialises in knee replacement surgery. According to the latest NJR data, he has performed approximately 600 primary total knee replacements, 200 partial knee replacements and over 100 revision knee replacements in the last 3 years. He is a Faculty Member of the Oxford Partial Knee Group and helps train experienced surgeons in this technique. He also specialises in arthroscopic and ligament reconstruction surgery as well as maintaining his interest in orthopaedic trauma. Mr Butler-Manuel has a major interest in Clinical Research. He regularly presents at national and international Knee Conferences. He helped establish a dedicated lower limb Research Unit at the Conquest Hospital. Current research studies include:- a randomised controlled study comparing functional results between an established (AGC) and a newer (Vanguard) knee replacements, a randomised controlled study comparing the outcomes following mobile bearing (TMK) and fixed bearing (AGC) knee replacements, and a long term review of Oxford partial knee replacements to be submitted for publication in 2016, He is also principal investigator at the Conquest for an international multicentre study comparing total hip replacement with hemiarthroplasty for fractured neck of femur patients. Mr Butler-Manuel has also been Lead Consultant for Audit and was Orthopaedic Clinical Lead at the Conquest Hospital from 2007 -2011.

Mr Lee David

Mr David has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust for over 13 years, having trained in London and the South East. His practice mainly consists of large volumes of knee and hip replacements. He graduated from the Royal London Hospital Medical College in 1994. Following completion of Basic Surgical Training, he became Knee Research Fellow at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, in 1999. He presented and published numerous papers and won prizes at a national and international level in the fields of Joint Reconstruction and Cartilage Transplantation. Mr David completed his specialist training on the South East rotation with Advanced Training and Fellowships at Stanmore and Guy’s & St. Thomas’s Hospitals. He was the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association Representative on the Specialty Advisory Committee and the Intercollegiate Specialty Board of Examinations and has been a member of the Royal Society of Medicine Orthopaedics Section Committee. He was appointed as a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery in 2008. Since his appointment he has developed specialist interests in hip and knee replacement, complex knee arthroplasty and revision surgery and lower limb trauma surgery. He performs high volumes of hip and knee replacements with excellent outcomes on the National Joint Registry, with low complications and revision rates. Mr Dunning completed his specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in the South East Thames region. Mr Oliver Harley

Oliver Harley is a fully qualified, GMC registered specialist Plastic Surgeon. He is also a member of The British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and The British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). Mr Harley specialises both in cosmetic surgery and hand surgery. Mr Simon Hoskinson

Mr Hoskinson undertook his preclinical undergraduate medical training at the University of Cambridge, and then completed clinical training at the Royal Free & University College Medical School, London, in 2000. Following basic surgical training in Brighton, he then completed higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics in London and the South East of England. Following completion of his surgical training and gaining entry onto the Specialist Register, Mr Hoskinson undertook a Fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Canada which further developed his experience in hip and knee replacement surgery, including revision surgery. He then undertook a further Fellowship specialising in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery at St. George’s Hospital, London. Mr Hoskinson was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in hip and knee replacement surgery at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in 2015. He performs out-patient clinics and operating lists at The Horder Centre and Eastbourne District General Hospital. He also runs a regular trauma operating list at the Conquest Hospital and is part of the trauma on-call team. Mr Hoskinson is Chair of the Clinical Governance Committee at The Horder Centre and is committed to maintaining and improving high quality care within the organisation.

Mr Hagen Jähnich

Mr Jähnich is a Specialist in shoulder and elbow surgery. He went to medical school in Greifswald, Germany, from 1985 until 1990. He graduated in 1991 having worked in a training post in sports medicine. At that point, he moved to England in order to improve his language skills. Initially for sporting reasons and later on for family reasons he stayed in the United Kingdom and underwent a full training in surgery in general followed by a specialist orthopaedic training. This included advanced training posts in shoulder and elbow surgery and a hand fellowship. Since 2004, Mr Jähnich earned his title as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in the management of upper limb problems. Furthermore, he teaches on national and international specialist arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery courses. He was Regional Clinical Coordinator for the National Joint Registry for over ten years, and over the last 20 years of his practice as a consultant, he has developed and broadened his surgical techniques in modern shoulder surgery. To aid this he has visited world renowned Orthopaedic Surgeons such as Professor Ralph Hertel in Berne, Switzerland and Alex Castagne in Milan, Italy. He enjoys good relationships with surgeons around the world and is also part of a regional group of shoulder and elbow surgeons for the purpose of further professional development and to discuss challenging cases in a forum of likeminded individuals. Mr Andrew Armitage

MBBS, FRCS (Orth & Tr), BSc General Medical Council Number: 3678479 Mr Armitage completed his Orthopaedic training on the south East Thames Higher Surgical Training Programme in 2001, gaining experience in many district general hospitals including Brighton, St Thomas’s and King’s College London and Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital. In August 2001 he commenced a fellowship in Perth Western Australia working with Mr Holt specialising in sports related injuries including knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow, hip arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction. In March 2002 he then began a Trauma Fellowship at Royal Perth Hospital, Australia study for Mr Croser, this involved the daily running of the trauma department and daily trauma surgery including highly complex fractures and multiple injuries. In April 2003 Mr Armitage was appointed to Eastbourne District General Hospital as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Knee surgery. In 2006 Mr Armitage took over as Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics at Eastbourne driving the department forward and inline with Local, National and European directives. He stepped down from the position of Clinical Lead in 2012. He provides a comprehensive knee service including osteotomy, unicompartmental replacement, knee replacement, revision knee surgery, arthroscopy, ACL and PCL ligament reconstructions. He has excellent National Joint Register revision rates for knee surgery and receives a steady stream of complex knee referrals from his colleagues.

Mr Satish Ganesan

MBBS., D.Orth., DNB.Orth., MCh.Orth., FRCS (Tr&Orth)., General Medical Council Number: 6127364 I am a Consultant Spinal Surgeon, specialising in the diagnosis and management of most aspects of lower spinal pathology including low back pain, sciatica, spondylosis, spinal injuries, disc prolapse, stenosis, sacroiliac joint and coccygeal pain. The various spinal procedures he offers include spinal injections (ie facet blocks, lumbar nerve blocks, caudal epidural injections, coccyx injection etc), micro discectomy, spinal decompressions, spinal stabilisation and fusion procedures. I qualified in 1999 and commenced my orthopaedic training in the year 2000, accumulating over 18 years of experience in orthopaedic surgery and spinal surgery. Having received training both in India and the United Kingdom, I have been awarded two best outgoing student awards through my career and have completed Masters degrees in Orthopaedic Surgery with distinctions. I completed his fellowship in spinal surgery at Southampton and joined the orthopaedic department as a consultant in orthopaedic surgery with a special interest in spinal surgery at East Sussex Healthcare Trust in 2015. My commitments include providing care to injured patients in the emergency setting, and I offer when indicated surgical fixation of fractures including hip replacements. I am involved in the training of trainee surgeons and am an instructor on the advanced trauma and life support programme.
